Korean Inspired Strawberry Milk

This delicious strawberry milk recipe is sweet, refreshing and has zero nasties. Made with a simple strawberry puree and chunks of fresh strawberries for texture, you’ll never want to go back to the store-bought stuff.

Strawberry milk is a popular beverage sold in South Korea. Unlike a milkshake or a smoothie, the strawberry milk recipe calls for making a strawberry syrup with fresh (or frozen) strawberries, then stirring it into the milk of your choice. While you might be able to buy containers of strawberry milk wherever you are, chances are those containers are loaded with artificial colours and flavours and a bunch of high fructose corn syrup. While I usually love making this recipe with fresh, ripe strawberries while they are in season, you can absolutely opt to use frozen berries instead.

This drink is so customizable, feel free to swap out the dairy milk for any of your favourite alternative milks to make a vegan strawberry milk recipe. You can also choose to switch up the flavours! Lemon, almond, cardamom, nutmeg, and cinnamon are just a few ways you can customize this tasty beverage.
This drink is especially popular with children and is an excellent healthy alternative to sugar laden milkshakes.

 

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups milk (oat milk, almond milk, coconut milk)
  • 2 dates
  • 5 whole strawberries for puree
  • 3 finely diced additional strawberries (this is for the toppings)

Method:

Wash the strawberries. Cut the stems off strawberries (this is for the puree). Blend or mash with the dates. Place the mashed strawberries into a pot. Bring it to a boil. Once it starts boiling, stir for 20-30 seconds. Turn off heat. Wait until the puree completely cools down. (You can briefly place in the freezer to cool it down quicker.)

Pour the chilled puree to about ┬╝ way up your glass. Then add-in your milk. Do not fill the milk all the way to the top. Save some room for the diced strawberries. Add in as many diced strawberries as you wish.
Stir the drink well before drinking. It tastes better if you let it sit in the refrigerator overnight.
